Marvin Harold McDowell, age 90, of Bruce Township, Michigan passed away Monday morning, December 28, 2015, at his home.

Marvin was born on March 3, 1925, in Rudyard, Michigan to the late William Harold and Olive Belle (Nettleton) McDowell. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, sailing on the USS Waller in the South Pacific. Marvin was a member of the American Legion Post #323 in Pickford.

Marvin loved spending time outside cutting wood and gardening. He enjoyed wood carving, playing his hammer dulcimer, and attending music festivals. Marvin was thrilled to go on an Honor Flight and visit the WWII Memorial in Washington DC with his son Bill.

Marvin is survived by his wife: Shirley (Rye) McDowell, whom he married on June 29, 1946, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. He is also survived by his children: Carol (Tim) Storey of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, William (Dorothy) McDowell of Pickford, MI, Charles McDowell of Angeles City, Philippines, and Myrna (Fred) Laundy of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; three grandchildren: Mark Calder, and Morgan and Kevin Laundy; a sister: Freda Howard of West Bloomfield, MI; a brother: Dale (Alice) MacDowell of Rudyard, MI; and a brother-in-law: Jim (Karen) Rye of Pickford, MI.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law: Jack Howard, Richard Rye, and Harry Rye.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the Pickford Presbyterian Church. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Memorials may be left to Hospice of the EUP or a charity of your choice.
