In September 1900, Pompey married Otta Lee Hilyard. There were 3 children born to this union: Estil Dewart (b 1902), Erma Christine (b 1903), and Olga Ferne (b 1905). Pompey became a widower in 1906 when his wife Otta passed away due to illness.
After Otta died, Pompey lived with his mother Rachel, in Eureka.
He was co-owner and later sole owner/operator of the Souders Garage (102 S. Main Street, Eureka).
Pompey died in 1935 of carcinoma of the stomach. He was 64 years of age at the time of death.
The funeral was held on 2 August at the Christian Church of Eureka with Rev. S. L. Chase officiating. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka.
