Melvin Lee “Sonny” Riley, Jr. passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 in Seymour at the age of 83.
Services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with Jessie Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Sonny was born September 6, 1934 in Brenham, Texas to Melvin and Birdie Hogan Riley. He attended the Brenham Schools. Sonny worked most of his life in farming. He moved to Seymour in 1966 and worked for Pinky Arledge until the early 90s. He also worked for his nephew, Jessie Moore for 18 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and a son.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Debra Hemphill, Stella Riley and Rhea Bridgewater; a son, Melvin Riley, III; a sister, Rosie Davis; a brother, Edgar Shelton and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
