Janet Lynn Smith Carey passed away June 25, 2018 at Missouri Baptist Hospital.

She was born in St Louis to Carson and Winnifred [nee Hagar] Smith.

Janet held many passions throughout her life and especially loved hiking, biking, yoga and traveling the world whenever she could. She was mother to many beloved cats over the years, and now leaves behind her adopted Maine Coon, Casper.

Professionally, Janet’s early career began with years of work as a make-up artist for film and television in Wilmington, North Carolina, including for the hit show, ‘Dawson’s Creek’. Later in life, Janet earned a Master’s Degree in Expressive Arts Therapy and spent nearly 15 years working as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Portland, Oregon.

Surviving loved ones include two brothers: Alan Smith and Gary (Stephanie) Smith, one sister: Sandra (Terry) Croslow; three nephews: Matthew Smith, Jason Smith, Lucas Croslow; one niece: Cassie Coppess; and the Steel Magnolias: Jane Gilbert, Julie Hoffman, and Cindy Schellenberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 7 at 11:00 at Valhalla Chapel of Memories. Interment will be private at Valhalla Cemetery.
