US Senator, Congressman. Appointed, then duly elected as a Senator from Connecticut to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator William A. Buckingham, and served from 1875 to 1881. Elected to represent CT's 1st District in the House of Representatives, serving from 1883 to 1885.
