Mary (Latsis) Moses, life-long resident of Watertown, SD died on December 23, 2021 at the age of 94 at Jenkins Living Center where she had been a resident and lovingly cared for by Jenkins staff since 2010.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Friday, December 31, 2021 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Father Larry Ort, from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brookings, SD, officiating.

Visitation will be 4-6 pm, Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel.

Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mary was born to Sam (Sotiros) and Alexandra Latsis on March 15, 1927 in Watertown, SD. She was baptized in a joint Episcopal and Greek Orthodox ceremony at Lake Kampeska. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1945 and attended college at SDSU.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, A.C. (Pete) Moses on August 10, 1947 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Watertown, which is also where all five of their children were baptized and confirmed.

Mary worked as a secretary and performed data entry at Midland National Life Insurance Company in Watertown, until the company relocated to Sioux Falls. She then worked at Watertown Senior High as an assistant in the administrative offices and at the Attendance Desk (many students of the early 1970's claim they wouldn't have graduated, if not for her, as she had a big heart and gave students the benefit of the doubt).

She was always active in Trinity Episcopal Church of Watertown. She served several terms on the vestry, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was in Daughters of the King, and chairman of Episcopal Church Women, Unity Thank Offering, the youth group and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter BI, Codington County Republican Women, U.S. Postal Auxiliary and Friends of the Watertown Regional Library.

Mary left very specific instructions (no surprise, as she was a consummate planner and list maker, leaving nothing to chance) which included the following, "I would like to be remembered for two things: love and laughter! Please be happy for me, because Pete's been waiting for me and now we will be reunited forever!"

She was a voracious reader. Mary was a good friend, a great listener and loved people. Her family joked that while many people brought home stray dogs and cats, she brought home stray people – there was always room for another person at the table and at our house and she made them feel welcome. She was the most resilient and positive person you'll ever encounter and had an inner strength and faith that she projected on others. She would only allow you a few minutes of a 'pity party' and would then give you the pep talk you needed to hear and send you back into the game. She could make you believe in yourself even at your lowest points in life. She had a sharp sense of humor and always encouraged laughter to get through the hard times. She will want us all to remember her by sharing funny stories about her and the family.

She is survived in death by three of her five children, Randy (Risthy) Moses of Pierre, SD; daughter-in-law Cheryl Moses of Big Pine Key, FL; Cathy Lehman of Brookings, SD and Cindy (Gabe) Mydland of Brookings, SD; her grandchildren Melissa (Jason) Roby of Onalaska, WI; T.J. (Erica) Hurkes of Watertown, SD; Zachary (Dasha) Moses of Charleston, SC; Emily Moses of New Hope, MN; Kate Mydland of Sioux Falls, SD; Lexy Lehman of Jackson, MS; C.J. Moses of Pierre, SD; and Chris Moses of Pierre, SD. Great grandchildren Emma and Claire Roby of Onalaska, WI and Ty and Tyllie Hurkes of Watertown, SD; and dozens of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Pete Moses of Watertown; parents Sam and Alexandra Latsis of Watertown, her brother Tom Latsis of Tacoma, WA and sons, Jeff Moses, of Big Pine Key, FL and Mark Moses of Big Pine Key, FL.
