“The Adventures of Jack” is a children’s book from the 1930’s about the adventuresome life of this special pup named Jack and all of the adventures and trials that filled his life every day. This book is the perfect way to remember the life of Jack Galloway and all of the adventures that filled his life. Jack’s final adventure on this earth came to pass on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at his home from causes too numerous to explain.

John A. “Jack” Galloway was born on Dec 30, 1932, the second youngest child to Carl and Marie Galloway in Mendota, Ill. Jack spent many of his years growing up in the Mendota area, attending Holy Cross School and eventually Perryville Seminary in Missouri. Jack was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. After the war, Jack married Marjorie “Marge” Zolper in April of 1956. They were the proud parents of 10 children, 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom thought the world of Jack. For most of his working years he was employed by the Wayside Press in Mendota, Ill. He was a top notch press operator and was instrumental in organizing an employee union so that all were paid a fair wage for their labor. Besides his printing job, Jack was also a real estate appraiser and agent for the Clifford Leonard Agency. If that weren’t enough, Jack was also an independent house painter. Jack’s next adventure was getting into sales for the Dubuque Casket Company. This adventure eventually took Jack to Madison, Wis., in 1980, where he met his partner, Jay Wolf. Jack and Jay spent over 38 years together sharing their love of antiques and their beautiful home with its beautiful yard and pond. They were also blessed to do a lot of traveling, including a two week cruise to Italy, Greece and Turkey in 2000. But, the most important thing that they shared together was the love of family, both Jay’s and Jack’s, but because of the large numbers, Jack’s family became a huge part of both of their lives, especially as the years went on. Their love for each other was difficult for a number of years, but as health issues mounted for Jack, the love and care that Jay freely gave made their relationship just a normal part of everyday life for Jack’s family. Jay was also included as a part of the Galloway family.

After moving to Madison, Jack got back into the printing business becoming the vice president of Suttle Press in Waunakee, Wis. After his retirement, Jack began his next adventure as a nanny for Tom and Nina Bartell and their three children, Christina, Stephanie and Alex. Jack also became the best of buddies with Nina’s mother, Dushanka Petrovich. After approximately 12 years, health issues forced Jack to give up his duties as part of the household, but not as part of their lives and hearts. The time they shared together was truly a miracle. In later years, family gatherings (especially weddings) took top priority. Many wonderful memories were made with Jack and Marge and their children and their love for each other, such an incredible blessing.

Jack leaves behind a very long list of family and friends beginning with his loving partner of 38 years, Jay; his former wife and source of spiritual support, Marge, whom he loved so dearly; their 10 children, Stephen (Rose), Julie (Francis), Jayne (Mory), Bruce (Wanda), Joanne (Keith), David (Patricia), Carol (Ron), Brian (Robin), Susan (Mario), Rachel (Kris) and honorary daughter #7, Barb Prevort; 22 grandchildren, Sebastian, Vanessa, Tanya, Nathan, Philip, Timothy, Barrett, Matthew, Stephanie, Samantha, Synthia, Jason, Jamie Lynn, Jessica, Jamie Marie, Troy, Kurt, Marc, Damian, Grace, Gabriel and Xander; 20 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Addyson, Tomas, Olivia, Isabel, Eli, Amelia, Jacob, Milena, Diego, Ronald, Trip, Alyssa, Hayden, Lachlan, Madison, Brooklyn, Addyson and Kayleane; his only sister, Marjorie; his brother, Robert; as well as many members of the Zolper family; his dear friend, Glenn Thomesen; his parents, Tom and Kris; his dear friend, Tom O’Connor; Jay’s brother, Dudley; dear neighbors, Bernie and Kevin, Seth and Sarah; and their children, Elijah and Oona; as well as, his special four-legged friend, Honey Bee.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Marie; his brothers, Francis, James, Paul, Kenneth and Carl Jr.; daughter-in-law, Helen; grandsons, Joshua and Carl; great-grandson, Jackson; and step-granddaughters, Jennifer and Kayla.
