Sylva - Lou Etta Carter, 81, of Molasses Mountain Road, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.

A native and and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a loving mother, and grandmother, a avid cook, gardener, canner, quilter and seamstress, and had worked at Ashley Corp. as a seamstress; daughter of the late Claxton and Nellie Robinson Carter, preceded in death by a her husband, John B. Childers; sister, Mary Carter; five brothers, Sherman, Charlie, Lee, Buck and James Carter.

Surviving is four daughters, Rosetta Gates and husband, Donald, Darlene Burrell and husband, Donnie, both of Sylva, Debrah Tucker of Asheboro and Irene Gregg and husband, Bob, of Dillsboro; one son, Alvin Carter and his wife, Elaine Buchanan; two sisters, Ellen Sutton of Dillsboro and Elizabeth Polly Sutton of Sylva; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at MeltonRiddle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Stilwell and Dennis Burrell officiating. Burial in Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery.
