KASPAR AUGUSTEN SZMIGELSKI
Dad was born January 10, 1918, to Mary and Augusten Szmigelski in Trembowla, Poland. He came to Canada with his family in the fall of 1930, where they settled on a farm in Matlock. At an early age he left home to work in bush camps in southeastern Manitoba and western Ontario. He returned home to work the family farm. Dad then went to Winnipeg to attend barber school. He moved to Riverton to work as a barber and eventually bought the shop.
Dad and mom married in 1942, raising four children in Riverton. In 1963, they went into the hotel business. After retiring from the hotel business, dad and mom moved to Winnipeg for several years and eventually settled in Bird's Hill, where he worked at Bird's Hill Park.
Throughout his life, dad enjoyed various sports. He curled for many years, managed little league baseball and was a long-time season ticket holder of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He also enjoyed watching wrestling and baseball.
Dad will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his four children and their famiies, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two sisters, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Jeanne, his parents and four siblings.
Special thanks to his neighbours as well as Ruth, Andrea and all his health caregivers that attended to him in his home.
There will be a private family service and interment will take place at St. William's Cemetery, Winnipeg Beach, MB. Active pallbearers will be his sons-in-law Gordon, Tony and Danny; his grandsons Jeff, Blair and Todd; and friends Bill and Paul. Honorary pallbearers are his 12 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Alex, Marcail, Shayne, Trevor, Randy, Jon, Signe, Olivia, Justin, Rylen and Cassie.
Flowers are gratefully declined and donations may be made to the Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
