Monona- Richard Eugene Saunders Sr., age 91, peacefully ended his battle with Parkinson's disease on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Agrace Inpatient in Janesville.

He was born on August 17, 1926, the youngest of four children, to Oliver Perry and Daisy Saunders. Dick grew up working on his parent's farm. He never knew a day without work, a trait that he carried with him his entire life and passed onto his six children.

Dick loved to work, especially if it involved using his hands and self-taught skills. He was known as Mr. Fix-it to many, and was always willing to lend a hand where it was needed. Dick held many jobs during his lifetime, as he often held more than one. He retired from the State of Wisconsin where he worked as a custodian for many years at the Army National Guard building.

Dick grew up in a household without faith, but when he fell in love with his first wife, Patricia (Pat) she told him they could not marry if he did not study and learn the Seventh Day Adventist religion. Not only did he study and convert to this religion, he lived his life sharing his faith with all who knew him. Together they raised a family of six children. After 45 years of marriage, Pat passed away in 1994.

True love came into Dick's life again through Jacqueline Goodman (Jackie), and she became his second wife in 1996. They enjoyed many travels during their time together and lived life fully. Jackie brought two sons into Dick's life, also.

In addition to his loving wife Jackie, Dick's surviving family include his children, Richard, Jr. of Madison, Pamela of Marshall, Donald (Eileen) of Edgerton, Beth (Phil) Saunders-Buss of Marshall; daughters-in-law Lynn Saunders of Poynette and Linda Saunders of Stoughton; stepsons Michael (Judy) Minier of Oxford and Greg (Veronica) Minier of Sparta. Dick is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by infant son, Daniel, son David and son Dale; sisters Lilah Carey and Verna Beason; and brother, Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Madison East Seventh-day Adventist Church, 910 Femrite Drive, Monona, with Senior Pastor Titus Naftanaila officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, immediately following. Burial will take place in Prairie Mound Cemetery in Oregon. Visitation will held from 10:00 AM until the time of service Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare Inc.

A special thank you to the staff of Agrace for their care and compassion. Please share your memories of Dick by posting Tributes.
