Marilyn Jean McCauley Schacht, daughter of Lloyd McCauley and Lucille (Matteson) McCauley was born on December 4, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska. She died on June 24, 2018 at Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 20 days.

Marilyn was baptized and received her first communion at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha. She spent much of her childhood helping her parents run their restaurant in Omaha. She graduated from Omaha South High School in 1955. Marilyn continued her education at the Davis Business School in Omaha where she studied to be a Comptometer. She used this skill working in the payroll department of Wilson’s Packing in Omaha. This is where she met her future husband, Arden Schacht. While dating - Marilyn decided to travel to California to visit family. Arden missed Marilyn so much that he decided to drive straight through from Omaha to California without stopping to sleep once. Once there, he persuaded her to come back to Omaha with him and they were married on July 13, 1957. They lived in the Omaha/Papillion area from 1957 - 1971. They moved with their four young children - Ron, Tammy, Mark and Scott to Fairbury when Arden accepted a job as manager of Fairbury Foods. While in Fairbury, a fifth child, Brad, was born. Marilyn spent time helping out in the office at Fairbury Foods but spent the majority of her time being a stay - at - home mom to her five children. Arden & Marilyn lived in Kenesaw, Nebraska for several years before returning to Fairbury to retire. After retirement and due to failing health, Arden and Marilyn sold their beloved acreage and moved to an apartment in 2014. Arden and Marilyn celebrated their 60th anniversary in July of 2017, one month before Arden passed away in August. Marilyn devoted her life to her family and lit up in the presence of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marilyn took pride completing her daily routine and even while fighting her battle with cancer, would wake up early every morning, dress, do her hair and makeup, along with making her bed. Marilyn was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church. She loved to study her bible. She often spoke about looking forward to the day she would join Jesus in Heaven and even in her dying moments, never showed fear or doubt in her faith.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Richard McCauley and Jerry McCauley, and sister Beverly Fritz.
