Bellingham Herald, The (WA) - Sunday, February 19, 2017
Born: 3/7/1931 - Died: 1/12/2017
Jerry passed away peacefully in Bellingham, Wa at the age of 85 after a short illness. He was born to Armond (Bud) and Mildred Boyd in Ferndale, Wa joining sister Mary. A lifetime Whatcom County resident he attended Ferndale Schools. He excelled in running track in high school but was drafted into the Army. After receiving an honorable medical discharge he returned back to Ferndale but was unable to compete at state in track due to his age. He graduated from Ferndale High School. Jerry was a farmer and enjoyed all that meant. He raised horses, was a jockey and raced in Wa, Or, Id and won many trophies. He was also a chariot racer in which he won a champion belt buckle. He worked with his father raising mink on the farm, raised beef cattle and hayed until the last few years. He was a member of the Whatcom County Sheriff's Posse. He worked for the Parks Dept at City of Bellingham. He enjoyed hunting, hounds, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed spending time at the Everson Auction Barn. During the summers he spent time at their waterfront beach property with family and friends. Jerry married Lois (Bonner) Boyd and they had 62 yrs together. They enjoyed driving in the hills and being together in nature. They took annual trips over the mountains to watch the elk feed and visit friends. Together they raised three daughters; Becky (Walden) Haines, Faye Miller, Karen (Karry) Lattig. Five grandchildren; Amanda, Ashley, Lindsey, Gerald, Cody. Two great grandchildren; Adison, Ryker and another on the way. Jerry was happiest on the farm. Friends and Family will truly miss him. He was a kind, soft spoken man with a firm hand shake and a heart of gold. He always put everyone else first and had a great sense of humor. If you said "Have a good day" he would say "You have a better day" his motto was "Hard work never hurt anyone"..."Work Hard, Play Harder" followed by a smile. At the end of a conversation with him it was not uncommon for him to ask "What can I do for you?" That's the kind of man he was. We all have special memories to hold close and cherish the gifts of time spent together. As per his request, no funeral services will be held.
