Afton L. Petersen Thomas
MIDWAY, UT-Afton P. Thomas passed away peacefully in her Midway home Tuesday, January 11, 2000, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
She was born February 17, 1927 to George E. and Thyra Louise Petersen. She graduated from South High School in 1945. She married her high school sweetheart and life long friend, Ira William (Bill) Thomas in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, August 26, 1947.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who devoted her life to her family, always making them top priority. She always put others before herself. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ira William Thomas; her three children, Ira Mark Thomas of Denver, CO; Ann Thomas Reffel of Midway, UT; Tracey (Jim) Martinos of St. Louis, MO; her nine grandchildren, Kim, Beth, Katie, and Kevin Reffel; Brandon, Kyle, Heather, Jacob, and Brooke Martinos. Also survived by her two sisters, Blanche Petersen of Salt Lake City, UT; and Gloria Anderson of Arizona. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clifford and Lauritz; and sister, Melba.
The family would like to thank the Midway LDS 2nd Ward, and especially Carolyn, Jolene, and Karen with hospice.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2000, 11 a.m. in the Midway 2nd LDS Ward, 200 South 250 East, Midway, Utah. Friends may call on Friday, January 14 from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, 288 North Main Street, Heber City, and on Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the LDS Chapel. Also, a visitation will be held following the Midway services at Mountain View Memorial Estates Mortuary & Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Sandy, Utah, from 2-2:30 p.m. Interment will follow. Arrangements in the care of Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, Heber City, Utah.
