David Prewit served in Company C, Arkansas 1st Cavalry (Union), 25 Aug 1862 to 20 Feb 1863, during Battle of Prairie Grove. No known marker survives, the markers of the day being wooden headboards that lasted about 5 years. This was an early military burial before the National Cemetery was created in 1867. David, also known as David Sr, a Baptist Minister, was a son of Spencer Prewit and Sarah Stockton, husband of Sarah (Sadie) Downs, and father of Sarah Prewit Elam born 27 Jan 1830, Elizabeth Prewit Wright born 3 Mar 1831, Jane Prewit Goodall born 20 July 1832, Barbara Prewit Wright born 7 Sep 1833, Lucinda Prewit Keeling born 2 Nov 1835, John Prewit born 8 Jan 1837 (Died in Mountain Meadows Massacre), William Prewit born 26 July 1839 (also died in Mountain Meadows Massacre), David Prewit Jr born 18 Feb 1841 and Elijah Prewit born 1 Apr 1844. (Sons David and Elijah both served with father in same company.)
