She was a graduate of Emmaus High School and Pennsylvania State University with an advanced degree from American University. As a computer science major, she began a long career working for various agencies on government related contracts and projects. She worked for the Department of Defense and served as a project manager at SAIC, a company providing government services and information technology support.
In 2017 following a brief retirement, she moved to the Plantation Village Retirement Community and was a member of Lutheran Church of Reconciliation, Wilmington. A loving and devoted mother and daughter, she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Survivors: Daughter, Shannon M. Hignite of Garner, NC; Mother, Maria B. Schmid of Emmaus, PA; Father, Erwin R. Schmid of Allentown, PA; Sister, Gloria E. Schmid of Hanover, MA. Her daughter, Jennifer "Jenny" M. Hignite, and brother, Richard P. Schmid, preceded her in death.
Services: 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 28 in Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main Street, Emmaus, PA 18049. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Macungie, PA.
