Early the evening of Monday, June 11, 2018, Lynda Joy Martin Norwood died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS disease) at University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Clements Hospital in Dallas. Present were her son, David Franklin Martin, Robert Martin, her guardian in life, and UTSW Angel and great friend Carolyn Swann. Born August 30,1939, in Iowa Park, Texas, Lynda was/is special to everyone who knew her. Receiving her MBA from Southern Methodist University, (SMU) Cox School of Business, was one of her later in life unique achievements, as well as fifty-seven (57) years as American Society of Medical Technologists (ASMT). Lynda, a pioneer of blood banking, retired from Kindred Hospital at the onset of ALS. In addition to her son David, Lynda is survived by her first cousins, Stanley Davis and his wife Barbara, and Allye Fuller, second cousin, Allan Fuller and his wife Darlane, Linda Norwood wife of Lynda’s brother Derrell and his daughter Gina Norwood Farris. Additionally, Mary Jane Martin Goodrick (David’s Aunt), husband Craig Smith and their families. Lynda was preceded in death by her parents W R (Jake) and Eula Davis Norwood and her brother Derrell Norwood. Currently other Davis folk are Frances Vicars, Leonard Phillips, Jane Windham, Russell Davis, Phillip Davis, Jan Cogburn, Eunice Cogburn, and Carolyn Cogburn.
Lynda was cremated Friday afternoon June 15,2018 and will be privately buried in the Martin family plot at Moore’s Funeral Home in Arlington Texas 76012. At 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 14, 2018, In Moore Funeral Home’s North Chapel, there is a celebration and honor of Lynda’s life with Pastor Paul Kerr officiating.
