Stephen L. Rice, Sr., 73, of Cresaptown passed away Friday, June 22, 2018, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cumberland on May 3, 1945, he was the son of the late Grace (Knippenberg) and Boyd Rice. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Rice, Joe Rice, and Pete Rice; sisters, Mary Zembower and husband, Pat, Jane Garland, and Ruth Ella Simpson and husband, Marvin; and brother-in-law, Chester McGill.
Steve graduated from Allegany High School in 1963. Following high school, he became a machinist at B & O Railroad. He later retired from CSXT Company in 1999.
Steve was a hunter and fisherman who enjoyed these activities with his family. He loved Allegany High School football, and he often said the best time of his life was watching his sons, Rob and Steve, play for the Campers.
Steve is survived by his wife of 53 years, LeAnn (Sindy) Rice; sons, Stephen L. Rice Jr., Havre de Grace, and Robert M. "Rob" Rice and fiance' Angie Fulton, Cumberland; twin daughters, Kristie Horn and husband, J.P., Havre de Grace, and Kari Clark, Cumberland; grandchildren, Matthew Rice, Katie Rice, Jack Horn, Alivia Horn, Kenley Clark, and Khloe Clark; sisters, Becky Twigg and husband, Lewie, Cumberland, Donna Harshberger and husband, Dr. Waldo Harshberger, Gainsville, Va.; sisters-in-law, Mary and Lois, Cumberland; brothers-in-law, Ronald Sindy and wife, June, Jackson, Ga., and the Rev. Dr. Richard Sindy and wife, Nancy, Charlottsville, Va.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway SW., Cresaptown, on Sunday, June 24, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, June 25, 2018, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Richard Sindy officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
