Marie spent her childhood and early adult years in the La Grange, Tennessee area but in November of 1900 the area was devastated by a massive tornado. Soon after, Marie and her mother [and possibly other family members] moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. She married her husband, Shelby Tupper Jabine, in Little Rock on 16 June 1903. Marie was a teacher at the Little Rock Conservatory of Music. The couple remained in Little Rock until about 1917-18, then moved to Chicago, Illinois where Marie continued to teach piano and keyboard. By 1930 she had her own studio in that city. Family lore has it that Marie was organist at the First Church Christ Scientist in Chicago but this hasn't been documented. Marie and Shelby had no issue.
