Rabbi and educator. Born in Leeds to Dovid Gershon Newman, an immigrant from eastern Europe. In addition to rabbinical semicha, he wrote a PhD on the Life of Jews in Babylonia at the University of London. Was Rabbi of the Notting Hill Federation Synagogue until his early death in 1951. A Sefer Torah in his name was donated by the now defunct Notting Hill Synagogue to the Ashkenaz community in Metar, Israel by his grandson Prof. David Newman
