Bob was born in Newark, NJ, to Robert W. and Emily Kinsey. His family settled in Fresno, CA, where Bob went to Roosevelt High School. As a family, they attended Memorial Baptist Church.
Bob was licensed as a Baptist preacher at age 17. He started a church in North Fork, CA in 1952.
Bob graduated from Fresno Pacific College in 1952, and Fresno State College in 1953. He married Maryann Lindegren in 1953, and was married for 60 years until she died. They moved to Los Angeles, CA, where Bob attended Fuller Seminary for one year before transferring to the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine.
Dr. Kinsey graduated from UCLA in 1958, completed his training in Orange County, and returned to Fresno in 1962, to start a private practice in psychiatry. During his career, Dr. Kinsey served as Medical Director of Mental Health for Fresno County and as Medical Director of Psychiatry at Fresno Community Hospital. He worked for Kaiser Permanente from 1988 to 1999, when he retired.
Bob is survived by his brother, Jon Kinsey; children, Karin Doggett and husband Louis, Robert J. and wife Beth, and Susan Nielsen and husband Randy; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Bob will be buried in a private ceremony for family on June 30, 2018. A Memorial Service will follow at Ambassador Baptist Church, 4589 N. Marty, Fresno, CA, at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dr. Kinsey's life.
