PRESTON - Verl Joseph Nielson, 89, passed away Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston. He was born December 27, 1913 in Cleveland, Idaho, the son of Edgar Odeland and Catherine Ann Bevins Nielson. He married Vera Elva Smout on Oct. 15, 1937 in the Logan Temple. She preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 1993. He married Annie Burton on May 6, 1994 in Preston, Idaho. She preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 1999.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in several church positions. He was a temple worker and served an LDS mission to Indiana with his wife, Vera. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to do things and be with family and friends. He especially loved his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by one daughter and one son, Kayleen (Robert) Burton, Grace, Idaho; DeVerl E. (Geraldene) Nielson, Shelley, Idaho; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Donna Moser, Preston; Ora Rasmussen, Preston; Homer Nielson, Preston; and Merlin Nielson, Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was also preceded in death two brothers and two sisters, Delbert Nielson, Harvey Nielson, Erma Austin and Della Higley.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at noon in the Preston Third Ward Chapel, 155 N. 2nd W., Preston, with Bishop David Noyes conducting. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Cleveland, Idaho Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntsman Cancer Center or the Primary Children's Hospital.
