US Congressman, 18th Connecticut Governor. He was elected to represent Connecticut as an At-Large delegate in the House of Representatives to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William W. Ellsworth, serving from 1834 to 1835. Again elected to the House of Representatives in 1839 to represent the 1st District, and served from 1839 to 1843. He then served as Governor of Connecticut from 1849 to 1850. He was the grandson of Revolutionary War Connecticut Governor Jonathan Trumbull, the nephew of 3rd Connecticut Governor and Congressman Jonathan Trumbull Jr., and the nephew of Connecticut Continental Congressman Joseph Trumbull (1737-1778).
