Served with Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry, 101st Airborne. He was played by Marc Warren in the HBO miniseres, "Band of Brothers."

According to the miniseries, he had supposedly never recovered from a "neck wound," and died in Philadelphia in 1948, his family would later correct this error, stating that it was a shoulder wound he received, not, as the series had stated, a neck wound, Blithe received two Purple Hearts for this action.

He served with distinction from 1942 to 1967, having fought in Korea, and earning a MAAG assignment in Tiawan.

He died while on active duty in Germany, at the age of 44.

He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

Cause of Death: Kidney failure.
