Opal Muriel Ethel Jones, age 99, of Winnebago, died Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Heartland Parker Oaks, in Winnebago.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at First Baptist Church in Winnebago, with Rev. Daren Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Bass Lake Cemetery, Rural Winnebago, MN.

Opal Muriel Ethel Jones was born December 22, 1918, in Grundy County, IA, to George and Elizabeth (Lindaman) Tjaden, the third of five daughters. In her younger years, the family moved to Brookings County, SD, and then to the Winnebago area in 1935.

Opal graduated from Winnebago High School in 1937 and attended Mankato Teacher’s College, and later the University of Minnesota Farm School. She married Eldon Jones of Winnebago on May 27, 1943, living on the original Jones Family homestead their entire married life. They were blessed with three sons, Doug, Steve, and Tom.

Opal was an active member in lady’s activities at the First Baptist Church of Winnebago, a longtime member of the OAO Club, kept a lovely home, was a wonderful cook, loved to garden, and was a beautiful seamstress, providing many loved ones with the fruits of her talents and labor.

Opal is survived by her children, Douglas Jones, Steven (Nancy) Jones all of Winnebago, Tom (Linda) Jones of Delavan; grandchildren Sheila Van Riesen (Matt) of Park Rapids, Sharon (Josh) Walker of Winnebago, Erin Jones of Otsego, Keith (Erin Lynn) Jones of Hudson, WI, and Clint Jones of Winnebago; great grandchildren Logan and Aliesha Van Riesen, Bethany, Liberty and Brytain Walker, Evan, Dylan, Avery, Wyatt, Will, and Preston Jones, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon Jones in 2017; grandson, David Paul Jones son of Steven and Nancy; sisters, Gladys (Dennis) Lindberg, Mildred (Edmund) Jones, Donna Tjaden, and Ruth (Bill) Tyler; sister-in-law Marion (Maurice) Bottomley.
