Obituary of Mitchell Altom

Mitchell Mickey Yewell Altom, age 70, entered into eternal peace on Monday, June 18, 2018 in Biloxi, MS. after a long battle with mesothelioma cancer.

Mr. Altom was a beloved husband of 48 years to Brenda Bailey Altom; loving father to Mindy Altom, Marla Altom Campise (Joseph) and Meridith Altom; loving Papa to Blake, Mitch, Jillian, Dylan, Drew, Zack, Joey, Ella and Peyton; loving brother to Angela Viator (Wayne), Danny Altom (Lynn), Roberta Asman (Bill), Julie Peifer (Tommy), Lynda Duckworth, Rhonda McNair (Al), Deborah Altom (Jean), Darlene Merlos (Ricardo) and Janet Altom (Lenny); and is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Altom is a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received several medals including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. Altom was born in St. Louis, MO. He was the son of the late Yewell and Opal Altom. From 1977 to 2005 he lived in Buras, LA and from 2005 to 2018, he lived in Mandeville, LA. He most recently moved to Biloxi, MS in 2018. He worked as an offshore oil drilling operator after being honorably discharged from the Navy.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS on June 26th at 1:30p.m. Family and friends are invited to join the family as they honor his memory with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
