Mary Elizabeth Little Teague, 97, of Hickory, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Trinity Village.

Born October 16, 1920 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Annie Lou McNeely Little and John Smith Little.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry James Teague; brothers: J. Carrol Little, Leo McNeely Little, Paul White Little, Clyde Smith Little, John D. Little, Furchess Peary Little; an infant daughter, Norma Jean Teague; and a son-in-law, Edward L. Hooper, Sr.

Mary Elizabeth Little Teague, also known as sister, Lib, mother, grandmother and great-gran; was a very special Godly lady. She lived her faith for all to see. She loved everyone and offered help to others, in many ways. One of the most memorable was her gift of “removing the fire” from burns. A caller from California one day, was asking about how her family knew to take her to Mrs. Teague for burns on her feet, when she was a very young child. She had accidentally stepped into a chicken pie in the floor of her mother’s car, as it was being transported. This was a gift from God and Lib used it every time she was asked or saw anyone get a burn. Often, people would come back to ask what Lib had done to relieve their pain. She gave God the glory for her gift.

She was a graduate of Hickory High and worked at Kayser-Roth Hosiery. Lib was an active member of Highland Baptist Church for many years and served as Sunday School Teacher, choir member and member of the Joymakers Senior Choir and toured nursing homes to entertain residents and share God’s joy with others through the Joymakers.

Family was so very important to Lib. From her parents and brothers, to her children and their children for 5 generations. She was always available to help any way she could, and was an encourager to all, with unconditional love. She treated her children as if they were her most precious treasures. Her main goal was for all people, especially her family to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and live for Him.

The last 2 ½ years Lib lived at Trinity Village on Springs Rd., Hickory. During the last weeks of her life, her family heard so many people tell of ways Lib had blessed their lives, even from the dementia unit. She was always treated with kindness, respect and love by her caregivers.

Remember: Joy is not a matter of what’s happening around you, but of what’s happening inside you - And: Love is the beauty we take with us wherever we go.

As her family, we are so blessed to have had her in our lives. God lived through Lib and that is her legacy to us and all people. We pray you will follow her example daily.

She is survived by her children: Carolyn Teague Hooper; Larry Wayne Teague and wife Jean; 6 grandchildren: Ed Hooper, Jr., Beth Hooper Janaky, Mark Teague and wife Michelle, Ben Teague, Lee Chambers and wife Angie, Julie Chambers Byrd and husband Andy; great-grandchildren: David, Curtis and wife Kristy, and Ian Brooks, Ashley, Brooke and Candace Teague, Joshua Teague, Garrett Byrd and Ansley Byrd; 5 great-great-grandchildren: Haven Teague, Eli Brooks, Kennedy Teague, Avery Brooks, Adalyn Brooks; brother-in-law, Rowe Teague; sisters-in-law: Doris Lanier, Patsy Bolick; special nieces: Martha Goforth, Sue Phillips, Doris Belk; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Robison and the Rev. Dr. Dale Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory.
