Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 22, 1946.

George served as a First Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24D "Lobo" #42-40830, 320th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Nassau County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 27, 1940, prior to the war, in Jamaica, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Financial institution clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24D #42-40830 took off, with a crew of 12 & other B-24s, from 5 Mile Drome, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea on a bombing mission over Wewak Airfield, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea.

Over the target they were attacked by enemy aircraft that damaged two of their engines. They were attacked a second time and the tail section was shot off causing S/Sgt. Bundy to fall out without a parachute. 8 to 11 chutes were then seen leaving the B-24 but none of the crew were ever found.

George was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
