Obituary of William David Blackshear from the Leonard Graphic News

William David Blackshear
Died At Terrell

After months of suffering the spirit of William David Blackshear took its flight for that great beyond. about six years ago he became ill with pellagra from which he never recovered. His health improved, however, which enabled him to continue his labors until several months ago when he was brought to the home of his parents. There he received all the attention that willing hands can give--hands that never tire under like circumstances. About 5 weeks ago he grew worse and was taken to Terrell State Hospital where he received treatment. Thursday, Oct. 15, news came that he had died early in the day, which was no surprise, yet it was sad news to his family, who nevertheless knew there was no chance for his recovery.

Dave, as he was known, was born in McNary County, Tennessee, October 15, 1885, having died on his 46th birthday. He moved to Texas and settled near Mt. Pleasant i Titus County, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Laura Patterson on December 12, 1902. To this union was born eleven children. All of them survive. He, with his family, moved to Fannin County in 1923, making his home near Leonard and Trenton the past eight years. He united with the Methodist church and was baptized at Ripley, Texas in Titus County, August of 1916.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Henry Chambers at Grove Hill, after which he was laid to rest in the Grove Hill Cemetery.

It is sad to see the grave close above one so near and dear, yet:
"Call not back the dear departed,
Anchored safe where storms are o'er.
On the border land we left him,
Soon to meet and part no more.
When we leave this world of changes,
When we leave this world of care,
We shall find our missing loved ones,
In our Father's mansion fair."

David leaves aged father and mother and the following brothers and sisters:
James, R.L. and W. H. Blackshear of Leonard; C. M. Blackshear of Roxton; E. C. Blackshear of Shamrock; Mrs. J.J. Powell of Bynum; Mrs. E. L. Ellis of Henderson; Mrs. W. T. Murley and Miss Minnie Blackshear of Leonard, all of whom are grieved at his passing.
