Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Catherine Grace Washington Gleason. He graduated from Scranton Central High School, where he met the love of his life and future wife, Tess. He proudly served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, where he served as a trainer and instructor.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as superintendent by the Wyoming County Redevelopment Authority.
He was a member of St. Paul Parish and was the backbone of the parish block party for over a decade. He was also a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. As a young man, Mickey worked at his family's plumbing and heating business, thus beginning his lifelong avocation of tinkering with and repairing all things mechanical. There was nothing he couldn't fix, and the greater the challenge the happier he was. He was always glad to share his expertise and was called upon often and by many for help. Mickey was happiest in the company of friends and family, telling a story or joke. The twinkle in his eye would grow and his own laughter would often crescendo before the end of his tale, delighting everyone. He gave and received joy with an open heart, his love and friendship were unconditional and enduring.
Also surviving are his children: a son, A. Michael Gleason and wife, Diana, California; daughters, Ann Gleason and husband, Thomas Krisek, Austin, Texas; Susan and husband, James Roche, Clarks Summit; Paula and husband, Matt Lynott, Scranton; Carrie and husband, Paul Colaiezzi, Scranton; daughter-in-law, Margery, Clarks Summit; grandchildren, Rusty Roland, Steven and Tim Gleason, Laura Chapman, Abby LaBar, Matthew and Jordan Lynott, Daniel and Kelsey Gleason, Andrew, Christian and Catherine Colaiezzi; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Patrick; three brothers, Frank, Gene and George Gleason; and four sisters, Dorothy McCarthy, Grace Burks, Marion Moore and Nora Sheehan.
Funeral services will be Friday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, Penn Avenue. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
