Katherine Berberian Hutter Gerson passed away at home on June 20, 2018. Kathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many and she was a beloved member of the Houston Jewish community.
Born December 26, 1941 in Houston to Serope and Regine Berberian, Kathy grew up in Houston with her sister Jean Berberian Carney. She graduated from Lamar High School and attended classes at the University of Houston. Kathy married Michael Hutter in 1962 and they had two sons – Mitchell and Robert. Later, Kathy married Phillip Gerson and became beloved to his daughters Ellen Gerson Tagtmeier and Lori Gerson Gorewitz and the entire Gerson clan. Kathy loved to spend time with her grandchildren who fondly called her “Gigi” and with her friends doing fun things with their supper and travel clubs.
Kathy’s commitment to her family was matched only by her love and devotion in the many years she spent helping others achieve weight loss and good health. Kathy served on many boards for organizations, including Goldberg B’nai B’rith Towers, and she was actively involved in B’nai B’rith Women.
Kathy is survived by her sister Jean Berberian Carney, son and daughter-in-law Mitchell Hutter and Yvette Leleux Hutter, son Robert Hutter and Trave Jewel, daughter Ellen Gerson Tagtmeier, daughter and son-in-law Lori and Marc Gorewitz, grandchildren Joe and Johnny Rees, Ryan Matta, Brandi Lafferty, Sydney and Whitney Gorewitz and Parker and Carson Tagtmeier, great granddaughter Violet Rees, nephew Mark Carney and his wife Katie Carney, niece Susan Carney Merida and her husband Jason Merida and great nieces Emily, Quinn and Natalie, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 20, 2018, at Emanu El Memorial Park located at 8341 Bissonnet at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to J.B. Goldberg B’nai B’rith Senior Citizens Towers Foundation or a charity of choice. May Kathy’s memory be a blessing.
