Mike graduated from Macomber High School, 1957; served and was honorably discharged from the US Navy 1960.
Mike joined the Toledo Fire Division, July 21, 1967. He was promoted to Lieutenant June 3, 1977; Captain, August 27, 1979; Battalion Chief June 1, 1984; Deputy Chief, February 3, 1988; Interim Chief of the Division, November 20, 1989; retired October 26, 1990 as Assistant Chief.
Mike liked to fish, hunt, golf, read history and biographies but got his greatest joy being around his granddaughters. He was an Ohio State Buckeyes fan and Cleveland Browns fan.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mike is survived by wife, of 54 years, Catherine (Yancy); daughter, Julie Schultz (Lorna Braud) of Mandeville, LA; son Michael (Kimberly) Covington, LA; granddaughters, Nicole Borkowski of Baton Rouge, Sydney and Samantha Schultz Covington, LA, step-granddaughters, Amanda and Nicole Braud Mandeville, LA.
Visitation, at Foth-Dorfmeyer, Thursday, June 21 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with Last Alarm Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation Friday, June 22 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with service immediately following. Final resting place Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be sent to Toledo Firefighters Museum, 918 Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43612 or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
