Ms. Janice M. Russell, a lifelong resident of Taunton, died peacefully Sunday at Wingate of Norton. She was 91.
The daughter of Thomas and Katherine (Baker) Russell, she was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar and High Schools and a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Parish, Taunton.
A smart and savvy professional, Janice’s career in telecommunications spanned more than 40 years and multiple sites; she began as a junior operator with New England Telephone & Telegraph in Taunton and continued through the company’s many ownership iterations, retiring as an Administrative Manager for Verizon. She was a proud and active member of the local chapter of the non-profit Telephone Pioneers of America club, a volunteer organization dedicated to improving American communities.
Predeceased by her parents and brother, Thomas Russell, Jr., Janice leaves three generations of cousins and many friends and former colleagues.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 18th at 11 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours prior to the mass from 9:00 - 10:30AM at the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, MA. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
