Wise, VA - Roger Dale “Pooley” Lawson, 73, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Norton Community Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born July 20, 1944 in Wise, VA, Roger graduated from J.J. Kelly High School and Wise Trade School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Christian faith. He moved to Anderson, IN following his military service and worked at General Motors/Fisher Guide for 33 years. After retirement, he returned with his family to Wise, VA where he resided at the time of his death.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Howard Boyce Lawson; his mother, Mary Moore Lawson Sweet Baker; and his brothers, Boyce Eugene Lawson and Bradley Lawson.

Roger is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pamela Ann Gudgel Lawson of the home; a devoted son, David Thomas Lawson of Wise, VA; brother, Ronnie Joe Lawson of Big Stone Gap, VA; sister, Glenna Hubbard (Tommy) of Wise, VA; brother, Danny Ray Sweet (Pam) of Anderson, IN; grandson, Thomas Lee Lawson of Coeburn, VA and a host of nieces, nephews and great-nephews.

In healthier times, Roger enjoyed playing guitar and singing, fishing and playing cards with his friends. He always had a special place in his heart for children. He held a special place in his heart for his nieces, nephews and great nephews, who all called him “Uncle Pooley”.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 - Roger requested, if it is your wish, for contributions to be made to a children’s charity of your choice in lieu of flowers, or to the Gift of Life Transplant House, 705 2nd Street S.W., Rochester, MN 55902, where he was given the gift of life 13 years ago.
