Piscataway – Michael John Doherty, 73, passed away Saturday June 16, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV.

Born in Jersey City, Michael resided in Plainfield before settling to Piscataway in 1970. For almost 20 years, he shared a residence in Laughlin, NV.

Owner and operator of Doherty Tree Service, Michael also worked for General Motors and Piscataway Township Department of Public Works. He served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War in the 24th Infantry Division stationed at Warner Kaserne, Munich Germany.

A life member of both the American Legion Post 261, as well as two time past Commander, and 24th Infantry Division Association, Michael was a Master Mason at St. Stephen's Lodge #69 in South Amboy. Michael enjoyed watching the original American Picker, Jeopardy and rooting on the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Candee (Sieke) Doherty of Piscataway; daughter, Siobhan Doherty and fiancé, Michael Kontos of Piscataway; two sons, Michael Doherty of Jersey City and Kevin Doherty and his wife Cara of Somerset and sister, Julia Schneider and husband Edward of Annadale. He will also be missed by his grandson, Declan; niece, nephews and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 27, 2018 at 9AM in the Piscataway Funeral Home 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway NJ 08854, followed by a 10AM funeral mass in St. Frances Cabrini Church. Burial will follow in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery on Thursday. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 3-9PM.
