US Army veteran. Richard H. Pyle was a well known reporter for the Associated Press. He joined the US Army after High School and after serving his two years he returned to school and graduated with a degree in Journalism from Wayne State University in Detroit. He joined the Associated Press in 1962 and in 1968 volunteered to cover the conflict in Vietnam becoming the bureau chief in Saigon. He left Vietnam after covering the release of American POW's in Hanoi and was stationed in Washington DC where he covered the political news including the resignations of Spiro Agnew and Richard Nixon. He also continued to report news from other areas including the Middle East wars.
