Fern was born to George King and Ella Bessert King at Lynch, Nebraska, on March 13, 1924.

She passed from this life on June 17, 2018, at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 4 days at the Martin Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She attended rural grade schools and Stuart High School, graduating in 1942.

She married Arthur Seger on March 8, 1943 in St. Boniface Catholic Church at Stuart. To this union one son, Charles, was born.

She taught in both rural and town schools for 45 years retiring in 1988 and substituted for the following ten years. By taking night classes and summer school classes she earned a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Education from Kearney State College in August of 1972.

Her hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, and doing volunteer work.

Survivors include her son Charles and wife Beverly of Waterloo, Iowa, grandson Kurt Seger and wife Angie of Cedar Falls, Iowa, granddaughter Lora Nissen and her husband Bill from Moneta, Virginia. She also had three great grandchildren, Jase and Ella Seger and Samuel Nissen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
