He was born is Dublin, GA to the late Warren and Callie (Crafton) Dodson, orphaned at age 2 and raised by his Aunt and Uncle. Joseph moved to Woodstock, GA in 1952. He retired from General Motors at age 59.
Joseph was the first paid Fire Chief for the City of Woodstock. He loved all sports bowling, softball, camping, fishing, basketball and baseball (SCRA where he was very involved in getting it started and coached for years and especially the Atlanta Braves). He was a very loving man and was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Woodstock and a veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Mary “Lois” Dodson, sons; Raymond (Penny) Dodson and Toni (Patti) Dodson, daughter; Brenda (Butch) Brooks, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
Visitations will be held at Lakeside Funeral Home on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 19, from 2:00 until 4:00 and 5:00 until 8:00 pm.
The Funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Lakeside Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Law officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 2:00pm.
