Lieutenant Lee A. Barton was appointed to the Metropolitan Police Department on September 1, 1950 and retired on March 1, 1970.
Oct. 27, 1926 — June 15, 2018
QUEENSBURY — Lee A. Barton 91, passed away peacefully Friday, June 15, 2018 surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 27, 1926 in Saratoga Springs. He was the son of Chester and Helen Barton and had five siblings: Robert, Marjory, Raymond, Kenneth and Dorothy.
Lee was a man of service. He first served in the Navy until 1946. After getting a degree from the Pennsylvania Institute of Criminology he became a police officer for the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington D.C. He retired in 1970 returning to this area, living the rest of his life at Lake Sunnyside in Queensbury. His serving didn't stop there, Lee, or "Pop", as everyone called him, became a member of the Bay Ridge Volunteer Fire Co. and served 30 years. He was the most giving and selfless person you would have ever meet. It was never about him, and you never left Pop without feeling better about yourself.
What made him feel good above all things was hugging, and holding, and kissing and dancing around the kitchen with 'Nanna', his wife Betty of 66 years. That man loved her immensely. She was his everything. So on Sept. 21, 2016 when she passed he lost his everything and as heartbroken as that man was, it was still never about him. And in true Pop fashion, he was still, and always was, a lifter of your spirits.
Anyone who new Lee will tell you he was one of kind. An amazing man of great character, a gentleman from a great generation of men.
Lee and Betty, were married May 14, 1951.
Survivors include his daughter Darlene (Marc) Chenier of Queensbury; his sons Keith (Sarah) Barton, Kirk (Donna) Barton and Kent (Victoria) Barton, all of Queensbury; his grandchildren Richard (Julie) Curtis, Kendra (Anthony) Preteroti, Vanessa (Ricky) Taylor, Matthew Barton, Korey (Jessica) Barton, Harrison Barton, Brandon Barton, Hunter(Julia) Barton, Keith (Jessica) Wildey, Hunter Wildey and several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to The Home of the Good Shepherd in Moreau for their great care, attentiveness and sympathy given during his time there.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours scheduled.
Burial will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga.
Arrangements are under the care of Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury.
