Gloria Mae Cole passed away June 16th, 2018. Heaven gained an amazing woman. No visit with Gloria was complete without a hot cup of coffee and the most amazing cookies to take when you left. She always had a smile as she sat in her chair, tapping her foot to the music you knew was playing in her beautiful, white hair covered head. You only had to ask once and she would rise to lean over the piano, with the nimble fingers of a 20 year old, gliding the ivories - playing the jazzy music of her youth.

Her love of all things children, God, Miss Piggy, and Carmen Miranda were a testament to Gloria’s joy for Life. Her silliness was a blessing to all that knew her. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body, but was never afraid to shake her fist and tell you what a stubborn German woman she was.

Gloria was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1931 to Clark & Fidelis Geppert. She attended North High School and studied elementary education at Stephens College. Her devotion to the Lord was evident through her life-long membership at Gatchel United Methodist Church, she served several years as the UMW president, and 30 years of teaching Sunday school.

Her greatest joy in life was being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Their happiness was her happiness.

Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Al Cole, son, Gary Gilchrist, daughters, Janet (Kevin) Reynolds, & Julie (Mike) Warren, step sons, Skip (Kathy) Cole, Rick (Nikki) Cole, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11am, Wednesday, June 20, 2018, Dunn’s Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312, with family greeting friends one hour prior. Cremation will follow with interment of cremains at a later date in Chapel Hill Gardens, Des Moines.
