"Aged resident passes. Mrs. George Foster died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Johnson on Ferry street, March 22, 1921, after an illness of less than a week, of a general breakdown. Deceased was born Oct. 12, 1842 in Springfield, Maine and was the daughter of John and Betsy Shumway. She was married Feb. 10, 1861 in Anoka. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. May Bryant, Mrs. Minnie Goodrich and Mrs. Frank Johnson; a brother, Stewart Shumway in Bellingham, Wash. and a sister, Mrs. S.S. Baine in Seattle; also five grandchildren and six great grand-sons.
Mrs. Foster had been a resident of Anoka since five years of age, a period of 74 years. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have been west since Jan. 22nd and were in San Francisco when the telegram of her mother's illness reached Portland so that they did not receive the message till two days later. They reached Anoka, Saturday, the 26th. It was a strange coincidence that last winter, the day after the Johnson's returned from the west, they were obliged to take Mrs. Foster to a hospital in Minneapolis for a serious operation from which she had fully recovered and this winter came home to attend her funeral two days later.
The funeral services were held from the Johnson home, Monday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. Rolland P. Butler, officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Frank and son, Mrs. Lucretia Shuller and Eugene Trask of Minneapolis were among those who came up to attend the funeral."
