ALICE MARIE VON TUNGELN BUZBEE

Born on January 23, 1938, on a farm near Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma, to Ray Champion and Alice Fisher Champion and passed away on June 17, 2018.

Attended school in Binger, Anadarko and graduated from El Reno High School in 1956. She was a member of the National Honor Society, received a Fine Arts Diploma and a Certificate of Merit. She received an Associates in Arts degree from Redlands College in El Reno and then attended the University of Oklahoma, in Norman, College of Law and received a certificate of completion in Paralegal Studies.

She married Wayne Von Tungeln on June 12, 1955, at First Christian Church in El Reno, Oklahoma. Wayne and Alice had three children; Douglas Wayne, Brad Alan and Karen Jennifer Tijerina. A proud and devoted mother active in PTA and various school activities. She was active with her children at the Wesley Methodist Church in El Reno where she also served on the Board and several committees, was a Sunday School teacher for both children and adults and sang in the choir for years.

Alice served as Vice President of the Canadian County Election Board in El Reno. After moving to Anadarko, she served as Clerk of Precinct 52 of the Caddo County Election Board. She was employed as a secretary and then as a Paralegal Office Manager for the Rinehart Law Office in El Reno for thirty-eight years until retiring on February 28, 2007.

Alice and John Paul Buzbee were married on March 3, 2007, at the Wesley Methodist Church in El Reno, Oklahoma, and established their home in Anadarko where John Paul was actively practicing Law. On various occasions, she was called upon by her husband to assist him in certain cases and continued to use her knowledge and expertise in his law practice. Alice was an active supporter of El Reno, Anadarko and OU sports. She and John Paul attended many Anadarko and OU football, basketball and baseball games. She was a member of the OU Sooner Club, the Angel Fire Golf and Country Club, Ft. Cobb Golf Club, the Andarko Chapter of PEO; Chapter DI, the Philomathic Study Club of Anadarko, Anadarko Garden Club, Redlands Alumni Association and the Oklahoma Paralegal Association. She served on various committees of PEO, the study club and the garden club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, golfing and traveling with her husband.

After she came to Anadarko, Alice became a member of the Anadarko Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed the Ladies Bible Study and Prayer Group. When it became necessary to close the Anadarko Presbyterian Church, John Paul and Alice joined the Anadarko First Baptist Church in 2009 where they were active and involved members. Alice was a member of the FBC choir, served on the Personnel Committee and the Counting Ministry.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Von Tungeln; her son, Brad Alan Von Tungeln; her niece, Dana Leigh Hicks; and her nephew, Courtney Champion.

Survivors include her husband, John Paul Buzbee of the home; one son, Douglas (Doug) Von Tungeln and his wife, Jamie of El Reno; one daugher, Karen Jennifer Tijerina and her husband, Mike of Lubbock, Texas; two stepchildren, Paul Buzbee of Gracemont; and Nancy Weathers and her husband, Guy of Mineral Wells, Texas.

Thirteen grandchildren, Steve Von Tungeln of El Reno; Laura Mitchell and her husband, Brad, of Saskatchewan, Canada; Lindsey Vise and her husband, Charles, of El Reno; Brad Von Tungeln and his wife, Melissa of El Reno; Jordan Collins and her husband, Michael of Oklahoma City; Alan Wolf of Lubbock, Texas; Erin Wolf of Blanchard; Ethan Weathers of Fort Worth, Texas; Eli Weathers of New York City, New York; Elizabeth Strecker of Gracemont; Ean Buzbee of Gracemont; Philip Tijerina of Reno, Nevada; and Madison Tijerina of Amarillo, Texas.

Nine great-grandchildren, Jackson Von Tungeln and Finley Von Tungeln of El Reno; Mallie Marie Mitchell and Jaycee Jae Mitchell of Saskatchewan, Canada; Charlotte (Lottie) Vise of El Reno; Avery Von Tungeln and Carter Von Tungeln of El Reno; and Alessandra and Alexis Collins of Oklahoma City.

She is also survived by a brother, Jerry Lee Champion and his wife Janis, of Broken Arrow; and sisters, Barbara Rae Hicks of El Reno and Mary Beth Henricksen of McKinney, Texas; brothers in law, Reverend Tom Buzbee and his wife, Maureen of Ozark City, Mizzouri; sisters in law, Sallie Upchurch and her husband, Richard Hagar of Flower Mound, Texas; and Glenda Conklin and her husband, Mike of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Anadarko, Oklahoma with Pastor Lynn Bellamy officiating. Interment will follow at El Reno Cemetery in El Reno Oklahoma.
