Leon Carr, age eighty-eight, of Seven Springs Nursing Home in Heber Springs, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, June 14, 2018.

Leon was born in Logan County, Colorado, on August 9, 1929, to the late Slvia and Rosie Barger Carr. He lived most of his life in Higden, Arkansas, where he attended school and farmed. While growing up in Higden, he enjoyed the outdoors and made fishing in the Little Red River and hunting his favorite hobbies. Leon was known around Higden as having one of the best gardens in the Higden community. He would plant and harvest an acre of vegetables yearly, and people from as far away as Little Rock, Arkansas, would come to Higden to purchase fresh vegetables.

After Leon’s health failed him, he made Seven Springs Nursing Home in Heber Springs, Arkansas, his home for the past fifteen years. The family wishes to thank everyone at Seven Springs for their dedicated services and attention given to Leon during these fifteen years. They also wish to give thanks to Hospice who helped look after him in his last days.

Leon is survived by several first cousins: Lou Ella Imogene Barger Davis of the Heritage Nursing Home of Conway, Arkansas; Loudeen Barger Schoolcraft of Quitman; Jimmy Levon Barger of Quitman, Roy Edward Barger of Quitman, Ella Mae Barger Francis of West Plains, Missouri; Leona Faye Barger Bittle of Quitman, and Carl J. Barger of Conway, Arkansas, who has been his power of attorney for several years. He is also survived by first cousins, Mary Elizabeth Barger Kirkendoll of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Steve Edward Barger of Clinton, Arkansas; and Patsy Daughtrey Fontenot of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

There will be a time of visitation for Leon at the Olmstead Funeral Home on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at 2:00 P. M. until 4:00 P. M. There will be a graveside service held on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 10:00 A. M. at the Higden McLehaney Cemetery, located on highway 16 near Higden, Arkansas. The Rev. Bobby Bittle of Quitman will be officiating the ceremony.
