William Benjamin Chalkley was born near Drewrys Bluff, in Chesterfield County, Virginia, April 10, 1833, and died at Ashland, Hanover County, Virginia, on January 10, 1891. He was a veteran of the War between the states, serving in the Confederate army from 1861 to 1865, during a part of the time being on detail in the mail service. His business was farming. The war brought to him, as to any others, great losses, but he repaired his fortunes as well as well as he was able by engaging in business and serving in various...
