Isabella Serena Duff was born on Monday, September 27, 1819 in Jefferson County, Alabama to Robert Reece Duff and Elizabeth Henderson.
She married Peter Abraham Deel, III on December 21, 1837 in Mardesville, Talladega County, Alabama. They were blessed with thirteen children: Mary Jane Elizabeth Deel Fulton, Nancy Amanda Deel Clayton, Martha Virginia Deel Lambert, Pernicia Ann Florence Deel Roach, John Walter Deel, Robert Duff Deel, Sarah Isabella Deel Canady, Peter Abraham Deel IV, Triphenia Caroline Deel Haynes, Karritia Catherine Deel McCoy, Margaret Emaline Deel, George Washington Deel, and James Alexander Deel.
She died on Sunday, July 25, 1897 at her daughter's home outside of Ferris, Ellis County, Texas.
The following is her obituary which appeared in the newspaper, The Ferris Wheel, on July 31, 1897:
"Grandma" Deel, aged 78 years, died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. McCoy, one and a half miles west of town of heart disease. Mrs. Deel had been in bad health for some time, but was able to be up Saturday and ate a hearty supper before retiring. Awhile before day, her granddaughter, Mrs. Adams, heard her turn over and cough, but thought nothing of it till Mr. McCoy arose about 5 o'clock and found her dead in bed. The funeral was conducted Monday morning at 11 a.m. by Rev. W. H. Harry at the residence of her son-in-law, George McCoy. After the funeral service the remains were bought to the Ferris Cemetery and buried.
