Mary Fee Tyner Barbee, 85, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Memorial University Medical Center. The Ellabell native had lived in Savannah for most of her life. She was a retired welder having originally built Liberty Ships in the early 1940's at the Savannah Shipyard. Following WWII she worked as nurse's aide at Candler Hospital before going to work at Great Dane Trailers. Her last employment was with Metal Equipment Company, still working as a welder from which she retired. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. She had a true interest in the outdoors and she and her husband where avid campers. She is survived by her daughter Evon (John) Alexander, of Savannah, her son, William H. (Nancy) Barbee, Jr., of Hardeeville, SC., one sister, Ruth Tyner Shuman, of Ellabelle, one brother, Ping English Tyner, of Pooler, grandchildren, Becky Waller (Mark), Holly Thompson (Don), Bonnie Dempsey (Mark), Kelly Elizabeth Barbee, Emily Elaine Barbee, and Helen Christine Barbee, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 4, 2010 at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church with The Reverend Dr. Frank Parr officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Remembrances: Alzheimer's Association , 201 Television Circle, Savannah, GA 31406 or Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416. The family wishes to give their thanks to Azalealand Nursing Home and staff that Mrs. Barbee received while there.
