Eugene “Joe” Holmes, 58, of Berwick passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Berwick Hospital Center.

Born on Nov. 3, 1959, he was a son of the late Patricia A. Miller and Eugene J. Holmes. He was raised and educated in the Philadelphia area and attended trade school for auto detailing. Joe was employed in general contracting and roofing in Philadelphia for many years. After moving to Berwick, "Gene" worked for Wise Foods.

He enjoyed auto detailing, cooking, and judo in his younger years. He loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was a great big brother, helping to raise five siblings. His caring nature followed through and showed in the way he cared for his special needs stepdaughter, never shying away from any of the responsibility.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Evelyn J. (Davis) Holmes, with whom he spent the last 13 years, and was married to for the past five; daughters: Nichole Gulledge, Diana Ritchie, and Renee Holmes; stepchildren: Randolph Davis and Shawna Marie Holloway; and nine cherished grandchildren. He also leaves behind his stepdad, John Williams, with whom he had a close relationship; sisters: Rebecca Holmes and companion, Charles, Cheryl Fegley and husband, Steve, and Patty Cress; and many nieces and nephews who adored him.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Holmes, and sister, Rachel Williams.
