PORT CHARLOTTE - Robert John "Bob" Hudson, age 91, of Port Charlotte, formerly of Ocala and Jacksonville, passed into Glory at his daughter's residence on November 28, 2018 at 8:49 AM after a long illness of COPD and renal failure. He was born September 2, 1927, in Atlanta, GA, son of the late Charles Cain Hudson, Jr. and wife Mrs. Elizabeth Florence Amold Welch. He grew up in Jacksonville.
He was a patriot that loved his country. In 1945 Bob enlisted in the Merchant Marines, and served on the Ship Cassius Hudson witnessing many close calls and dangerous combat. At the close of World War II, he met and married Althea Ceal "Rose" Moon and they had three children. In 1972 he married Edna Cecilia Sturkey (died 2014). He also enlisted in the Florida National Guard, then later joined the Army Reserve. He worked in a management position for BellSouth from 1948 to 1985 being transferred to many locations in Florida and Georgia. After 37 years of loyal service he retired.
Bob was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed fishing, being with family, traveling, and watching football, but his favorite sport was golfing. He will be sorely missed by many.
He is survived by his half-brothers William Welch, CA, Thomas Hudson, Rogue River, OR; sons Steven R. (Pamela D.) Hudson, Patterson, GA, and Gary R. (Irene) Hudson, Tallahassee, FL; daughter Cynthia G. (Donald M.) Yates, Port Charlotte; grandchildren Deborah R. (John F.) Rogers, Robert L. Yates, Amberlee N. Yates; great grandson Sean William Rogers; ex-wife Ms. Althea Ruark, Waycross, GA; many other relatives and dear friends.
Bob donated his body to science. The family may wish to hold a memorial in honor of his life, with a marker placed later at a location yet to be determined, in his remembrance.
