Chief Warrant Officer Moore of Williamsburg, Va., graduated from Lafayette High in 1994 where he was a model student, reliable and trustworthy. He played football at Lafayette for at least two seasons. The youngest of seven children, he always looked up to his three brothers, each serving in the Marine Corps. He followed in their footsteps, but broke tradition by enlisting in the Army a few months after graduation from Lafayette. His intention was to make the Army his career, a job he truly loved. In his leisure he loved riding motorcycles and that passion was always on his mind. Dwayne enlisted in the Army in August 1994 and trained at Fort Sill, OK, to be a field artilleryman. In 2003, he graduated from Cameron University in Lawton, Okla. He then applied for, and was accepted to the Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Leavenworth, Ks. Upon completion of WOCS and advanced training, he was assigned to 2nd BCT in September 2005. He deployed with his unit to Iraq in August 2006. His military education includes the Target Acquisition Radar Technician Warrant Officer Basic Course, Warrant Officer Candidate School, Total Army Instructor Training Course, Jumpmaster Course, Combat Lifesaver Course and Basic Airborne Course. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Senior Parachutist Badge and the Driver Badge. A strong Christian who was very involved in the church, he put his family and the Lord first in his life. He is survived by his wife, Kelly; daughter, Aiyana; and parents, Fred and Ann Moore. Dwayne died in Mahmudiyah of wounds suffered when he came in contact with enemy forces using indirect fire at age 31.
