He served in the United States Coast Guard and was an active auxiliary member. He was a founding member of the Heritage Masonic Lodge #458 AF&AM, Ben Hur Masonic Lodge #203 AF&AM, KC, KS, Ben Hur Lodge #322 Free Masons Riding Club, Abdallah Shriners, Lees Summit,MO, Lees Summit Underwater Rescue & Recovery Team, Head Softball Coach for Scrapper, KC,KS. He was preceded in death by his sister Linda Tanner in 1962, and his brother Brett Alan Tanner in 2002.
He is survived by his beloved wife and soul mate, Rebecca Tanner, of the home; two sons, Thomas and Seth Tanner, of the home; two daughters, Kelsie and Elizabeth Tanner, of the home; His parents, Tom and Norma Tanner, Kansas City, KS; four sisters, Tammy Huddleston, Kansas City, KS, Teresa Austin, Woodbine, GA, Cathy Hotujac, Kansas City, KS, Julie Eikenbary, Kansas City, KS; and his maternal grandmother, Genevive Althoff, Kansas City, KS.
