Sarah Barnes Steele, 93, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on June 13, 2018.
Sarah worked as a financial secretary for Brainerd Presbyterian Church for over 20 years. She retired from First Federal Bank after 29 years of service. Sarah was a longtime member of Spring Creek Baptist Church and taught Sunday school there for more than fifty years. She proudly sponsored a child named Victor Anagabilila of Uganda, through the Uganda Children’s Project, Inc. from childhood until becoming a successful adult who is now a Vice Principal of a school.
Sarah was preceded in death by her beloved husband of loving of 59 years, Lewis Steele.
She is survived by sons, Jim (Lisa) Steele of Ooltewah, Bob (Jane) Steele of Chattanooga; sister, Mary Pinkerton of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Sarah and Jessica Steele, Claire (Trace) Walker and great granddaughter, Adeline Walker.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 1pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. James Julian and Rev. Ron Ragon officiating. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Uganda Children’s Project, INC. at www.ugandachildrensproject.org.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
